Language Access
As we embark upon the 2024 Elections year, it is of utmost priority, within the office of the Secretary of State, to ensure that every eligible individual has the opportunity to cast their ballot. It is essential for voters to not only be provided valid information to effectively make informed decisions, but further, to ensure that individuals with Limited English proficiency (LEP) amongst certain language minority groups be granted language assistance as they participate in the electoral process.
Currently, compliance with Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act, mandates that the State of Nevada avail language services in the following languages based on specific county populations.
- Clark County - Spanish | Filipino
- Nye County - Shoshone
Additionally, it is noted, that Language Proficiency includes ensuring that individuals experiencing hearing limitations, be granted language services to help avail in their participation of the Electoral Process. We are excited, and truly applaud the progress made by the Nevada Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities, which proactively produced highly informative videos on the 2024 Elections cycle in American Sign Language (ASL)
