Secretary of State Boards and Commissions
The Secretary of State's Office facilitates the meetings and appointments of three boards and commissions created by the Legislature.
- The Advisory Committee for Participatory Democracy (ACPD) was created pursuant to NRS Chapter 225 to assist the Secretary of State in identifying and proposing programs that support participatory democracy, as well as recommending solutions to any problem concerning the level of participatory democracy in Nevada.
- The Task Force on Safe Sidewalk Vending was created during the 2023 Legislative Session as a part of Senate Bill 92, otherwise known as the Street Vendor Bill. This bill creates a framework for local governments to help street vendors legitimize their businesses and obtain licensure. The Task Force on Safe Sidewalk Vending is tasked with identifying challenges to remove unnecessary barriers for street vendors.
- The Keep Nevada Working Task Force was moved from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor to the Office of the Secretary of State during the 2023 Legislative Session. The Keep Nevada Working Task Force may develop strategies with private sector businesses, labor organizations and immigrant advocacy groups to support current and future industries across this State; conduct research on methods to strengthen career pathways for immigrants and create enhanced partnerships with projected growth industries; conduct research on methods to strengthen career pathways for immigrants and create enhanced partnerships with projected growth industries; and recommend approaches to improve the ability of this State to attract and retain immigrant business owners that provide new business and trade opportunities.

Boards and Commissions are created to provide citizens a voice in their government and influence decisions that shape the quality of life for the residents of the Silver State. Serving on a board or commission is one of the most effective ways citizens can take in becoming an active voice in state government.
WHAT ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS?
- Advisory- An advisory board, commission or council serves as a formal liaison between a state agency and the public, in addition to making recommendations on how to address specific issues.
- Regulatory Board- Regulatory boards are those that oversee the licensing, handle complaints, and enforce disciplinary actions of individuals or industries that fall within the jurisdiction of the board’s authority.
- Task Force - A task force is created for the purpose of accomplishing a definite objective and goal.
