WHO DO I FILE WITH?
The Secretary of State is the filing officer for all statewide and those offices that are comprised of more than one county. The county clerk or the registrar of voters is the filing officer for county and township offices and for any offices elected from districts completely within one county or part of one county. The city clerk is the filing officer for city offices.
The Secretary of State is the filing officer for all federal offices except for United States House of Representatives, Districts 1 and 3. The Clark County Registrar of Voters is the filing officer for those federal offices.
When in doubt, we recommend the candidate contact the filing officer to confirm.

For candidates who will file with the Office of the Secretary of State, the two locations:

Appointments are encouraged, but they are not required.

HOW CAN I FILE?
Candidates for statewide or multi-county office have three options to file with the Office of the Secretary of State:
1. In-person in Carson City or North Las Vegas (preferred)
2. Via mail
3. Virtually (via Teams)
WHAT PAPERWORK MUST I COMPLETE?
No matter how the candidate chooses to file for office, the same paperwork must be filled out. These forms are available through the Secretary of State's online candidate filing portal here. To access the forms:
1. Go to this website (The website will be activated not later than October 1, 2025).
2. Enter your information and answer the questions.
3. Once you are done filling out the questions, click "Download All Required Forms" and:
a. Go to your filing office on the date of your appointment or as a walk-in. Finish the paperwork there with your filing officer.
b. Print the candidate filing packet and bring it to a Notary Public to notarize the Declaration of Candidacy (it must be signed in front of the Notary). Once signed you may either hand deliver it to the filing officer (recommended) or mail it to your filing officer along with the required fee and identification paperwork (described below).
4. If you return the filing documents by mail, you must call the filing office to confirm receipt and to ensure all required documentation and payment has been received.
WHAT TYPE OF IDENTIFICATION DO I NEED TO FILE?
You should bring (or provide a copy of) a current driver’s license displaying your current residential address. If you do not have a driver’s license, bring documentation that contains your current residential address. Acceptable documentation includes a utility bill, bank statement, or paycheck.
WHAT IS THE FILING FEE?
The filing fee for each office is listed below.

*No filing fee is required from a candidate for an office the holder of which receives no compensation. (NRS 293.193)
WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED?
Filing fees may only be paid in cash, cashier’s check, or certified check (NRS 293.193). Personal or campaign checks and credit cards are not accepted. For candidates who file with the Secretary of State's office, the cashier or certified check must be made payable to the Nevada Secretary of State.
WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW AS A CANDIDATE?
All candidates are required to disclose their contributions and campaign expenditures (C&E) with the Secretary of State’s Office. C&E Reports are filed four times throughout the year during an election year, and then annually for seated officials. For a more detailed description about C&E Reports, click here.
