Starting a Nevada Business as a Sole Proprietor or General Partnerships Not Required to File Formation Documents Pursuant to Title 7 of NRS
Prior to starting a business in Nevada, a Sole Proprietor or General Partnership, not required to file formation documents pursuant to Title 7 of NRS, must obtain a State Business License or Notice of Exemption from the Secretary of State's office. Other state or local licenses may be required. This page contains forms necessary to obtain the State Business License or Notice of Exemption, if applicable, for only a Sole Proprietor or General Partnership, not required to file formation documents pursuant to Title 7 of NRS.
A Sole Proprietor or General Partnership is any natural person who performs a service or engages in a trade for profit. Examples include but are not limited to:
- Freelance photographer or writer
- Entertainer or performer not on a regular payroll
- Craftsperson who takes jobs on a contract basis
- Salesperson who receives only commissions
- Independent contractor who isn't on an employer's regular payroll
SOLE PROPRIETORSHIP
Sole Proprietorships are not required to file formation documents with the Secretary of State's office. However, a Nevada State Business License or Notice of Exemption is required before conducting business in the state of Nevada.
