(Carson City, NV; December 21, 2011) — Secretary of State Ross Miller’s Elections Division gave notice that the petition to recall Las Vegas Ward 6 Councilman Steve Ross qualifies as sufficient after assessing results presented by the Clark County Registrar of Voters.

Clark County Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax examined a random sampling of 500 signatures from the 1,189 signatures on the petition that the Committee to Recall Steve Ross submitted on Monday, Dec. 19. Lomax verified 1,150 signatures as valid, more than the 1,084 signatures required, or 25 percent of the number of people who voted in the 2009 Las Vegas Ward 6 municipal primary.

Pursuant to NRS 306.040, Secretary Miller provided written notification to the Clark County Registrar of Voters, the Las Vegas City Clerk, the petitioners and Councilman Ross. Barring any legal challenges, the Las Vegas City Clerk will issue a call for a special election 10 to 20 days from the date of the Secretary of State’s notice of the filed petition. Pursuant to the Nevada Constitution, the special election must be held within 30 days of the issuance of the call.

The memo and Petition Certificate of Results are attached to the press release.
