(Carson City, NV; October 21, 2016) – Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske reminds all registered voters that early voting for the 2016 general election begins tomorrow (Saturday), October 22nd, in all counties statewide, and runs through Friday, November 4th.  Any registered voter can vote at any early voting location within the county in which they are registered.  To view early voting locations and times, please visit the “Early Voting Information” page on the Secretary of State’s website, www.nvsos.gov, or click here.  Daily early voting turnout will be available on the “Early Voting Information” page beginning Sunday, October 23rd.

Secretary Cegavske also issues a reminder that all laws governing elections in Nevada apply during the early voting period just as they do on Election Day.  These laws include, but are not limited to:

  • Prohibition on interfering with the conduct of the election (NRS 293.730);

  • Prohibition on intimidating voters (NRS 293.710);

  • Prohibition on tampering with voting equipment (NRS 293.755); and

  • Prohibition on electioneering within 100 feet from the entrance to a voting area (NRS 293.361 and NRS 293.740).

Any violation of these laws carries criminal and/or civil penalties.  Electioneering includes any campaigning for or against a candidate, ballot question, or political party.

The Nevada Election Integrity Task Force (EITF), which is a multijurisdictional body that includes the Secretary of State’s office, the Attorney General’s office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Attorney’s office, and various local law enforcement agencies, will be on hand during the entire 14-day early voting period to respond as necessary to violations of state election law.
